When we perform a gutter cleaning on a steep pitched roof or a building with high gutters, a two-man crew is needed. The two-man crew uses harnesses and a rope to work directly from the roof. This technique is safer and provides us with a birds-eye view so that we can remove all debris from the roof and gutters.
Ladders can be dangerous and can damage gutters and landscape, so we use them as little as possible. A ladder is used to gain access to the roof. Once on the roof, we position one of the crew members at peak of the roof. That person is called the belay-man. The belay-man is equipped with a safety harness, a belay device and a rope, all of which are designed and tested for rock climbing. This gear is the safety line and is replaced when damaged or worn out. The belay-man controls the tension in the rope for the other crew member using the belay device and a counter-balance technique. The other crew member is the gutter cleaner. The gutter cleaner is also equipped with a harness for the rope to attach to. This person also carries a backpack blower. Now that both crew members are safely attached to each other, just like rock climbing, they can proceed to clean the gutters. The gutter cleaner uses the blower to remove all the debris from the roof first. Then, the gutters are cleaned using either the blower or the gutter cleaner's hands to make sure all debris is removed. When the cleaner gets to a downspout opening, the downspout is checked with the air from the blower. If a clog is found, the cleaner determines whether it is at the top or at the bottom of the downspout. If at the top, the clog is cleaned from the roof. If at the bottom, the clog is cleaned once the crew is back on the ground.
When the gutter cleaning is complete, we make sure that all low gutters that were not reachable from the roof are cleaned. A spotless clean up of all the debris from the roof and gutters is performed, making sure to get decks, patios, walkways and shrubs.
Both crew members are trained to perform each task in the gutter cleaning job. Every crew has a crew leader with at least 5 years experience with us. We understand the danger of the job and take all measures to ensure the safety of the crews. All of our crews work for us, are fully insured with Worker's Compensation and General Liability Insurance and are not sub-contracted.
